Healthy Roots Fitness & Nutrition camp


Healthy Roots Fitness & Nutrition Camp (HRFNC) is an inter-generational faith-based healthy lifestyle program for youth, adults and families that presents workshops featuring health experts in fitness and nutrition. Fitness and cooking demonstrations, group exercise classes, healthy lunch and various special guests make this fun loving, informative community health initiative a must attend program that helps that increases health awareness and assists participants in making smarter health choices for themselves and their families.

In 2009, Doris A. Rhem, Director of the Mother Health Ministry (MHM) under the historic Mother AME Zion Church implemented HRFNC as its flagship community health outreach program. In 2016, with the enthusiastic support of current Pastor, Rev. Richard C. Chapple Jr., HRFNC was founded by Monifa Maat, a longtime active member of Mother AME Zion Church.


A 4 week intensive workshop series following worship services on Sundays featuring fitness and nutrition presentations, demonstrations, films, and discussions which promote healthy lifestyle habits for families, that aim to reduce the prevalence of chronic lifestyle diseases and their accompanying mental health variables.
